St. Peter School Offers Student Assistance Program (SAP) to Families

In January, St. Peter School presented its families with their new Student Assistance Program.  This past June, five of our faculty and staff attended a three-day training in Johnstown to become part of a new Student Assistance Team for the Student Assistance Program. The Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a systematic team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning. SAP is designed to assist in identifying issues including alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and mental health issues which pose a barrier to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school. The team works with local agencies to provide this help to students and families. Brochures were sent home to families and the SAP team meets monthly to discuss any referrals and how to ensure all students and families receive the help they need to overcome and challenges at school or at home.  St. Peter School also has a Child Study Team available for students as well.  This fluid team of teachers and staff come together to address any issues not in the scope of the Students Assistance Program.  These are just two ways that St. Peter School works with families to ensure the health, happiness and academic success of its students.
